Abstract: THE ROLE OF MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS IN MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES

Objective: This study aims to (1) examine the impact of mentorship programs on employee motivation, (2) identify key elements of effective mentorship programs, and (3) assess the long-term benefits of mentorship on employee development and retention.

Research Design: A survey design was selected to gather detailed feedback from employees regarding their experiences with mentorship programs.

Sample Size: Utilizing Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 360 employees was determined, ensuring a 95% confidence level with a 5% margin of error.

Case Study: The research focused on the education sector, where mentorship is crucial for professional development and career growth.

Location: Enugu, a prominent educational hub with a diverse academic community.

Reliability Coefficient Score: The survey instrument had a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.88, indicating high reliability.

Findings: Mentorship programs significantly enhance employee motivation by providing guidance, support, and opportunities for skill development. Mentored employees demonstrated higher levels of job satisfaction and commitment to their organizations.

Recommendation: Educational institutions should establish structured mentorship programs that pair experienced mentors with mentees, provide ongoing support and feedback, and promote career development to enhance employee motivation and retention
